Coromandel road trip 28th May 2016
This past weekend (May 28th 21 of us set out for a sunny weekend break on the Coromandel. Only problem was at 7am in Auckland it was bucketing down but we are tough so off we went. By the time we met at Papakura it was dryer. Ron, Rose, Robyn, Ken, Mike, Greta, Brian, Paddy, Faruk, Christine, Keith, Chris, Janet, Vivienne and myself headed out for Thames. The Melbourne Cafe was an excellent choice and Pat, Cam, Jodie, Raph, Gary and Lynn joined us there. Food was delicious.
Then a lovely drive up the coast to Coromandel town. Not much happening there but some found time for a cool drop before most of us went on the Driving Creek Railways at 2pm. Very interesting trip and fun. Learnt all about the area and the man who built most of the railway. 4 of us only came as far as Thames so 18 now headed onto Whitianga for the night. 5pm most were in my motel enjoying a drink, cheese, crackers and dips. 6.30pm we had 2 vans take 18 of us for dinner at a huge cost of $7 each van load and when we finished they were there in 2 mins to take us back for the same price. Love taxis there :)
Dinner at Salt was really good. Back to my rooms for chat and then bed. Breakfast at Harbour view Cafe at 8.30am and a meeting with our boat owner before 11 of us headed out for a trip to cathedral Cove and more. Great boat trip and just enough water to make it fun. We met at "Bugger" cafe at Pipiroa at 2pm for lunch before heading back into the Auckland rain. Lovely weekend. :)
