Mystery run Sunday May 19th.
Well the numbers really started climbing and on the Friday before the run we were up to 28 people. Wow ! Well worth the hours of energy to prepare the run. However, on the day, as usual, we were down in numbers. Some had valid reasons and some just never turned up. The final count that came along was down to 15. Dissapointing and also slightly embarressing as the restaurant was expecting a higher number than that.
Anyway, after my gripe the day was quite wet and cool but the run was fun. Cars departed in groups of 3 as there was 3 differant sets of clues and 3 very differant ways to get to the destination. Most cars took around 90 mins to arrive but one got fed up much earlier on and went home and the last in was close to 150 mins. Everyone who arrived thoroughly enjoyed the run though.
We ended at Settlers in Waimauku which was a beautiful venue.
The participants were all given a page (or 2) of clues as well as a very sealed envelope with the final destination written in for those totally lost. There was also 3 tasks set.
1. bring me a strap of flax cut from a flax bush
2. a photo of a cat
3. a flower from someones garden (not allowed to be bought).
I think the restaurant staff wondered at the steady parade of people arriving clutching flax straps and flowers. The funniest though was the variety of cat photos i was shown. Some had been lucky and already had a photo of their cat on their phone, one accosted a woman outside a vets with her cat in a cage and asked if they could photograph it (she thought them weird), others looked for road kill in the hope it was feline (disgraceful) and someone chased a poor cat along the road to take its photo.
If the weather had been better I would have asked for a photo of a giraffe as well with them in the photo but I took pity on people due to the rain.
Good fun day and hopefully the next one will be closer to the original numbers.
Pauline.
