On Friday 12th February 2010 several of us set out from Auckland heading to Napier.
We left Auckland at 9.45am and drove down to Taupo for lunch before continuing to Napier.
Napier put on its best weather for us and we cooked. Motel was nice and after drinks and nibbles in my room we went to watch the rugby in the sports bar. Some watched, some played the pokies and some walked.
Around 9.30pm it was decided we really should eat so piled into their restaurant and had a very late dinner. The staff were lovely and didn’t complain about having a large group arrive late as many places would have.
Next morning most of us met for breakfast before heading off in various directions. Some filled their cars with local fresh fruit and vegetables, some visited wineries and some walked the town. Stunning weather for our cars.
Christine, Keith, Angela, Leo, Brigid, Milton and Judy left for the venue at 4pm while Ken, Heather, Yvonne, Grahame and myself didn’t go down till 6pm. I didn’t fancy sitting in the open for hours waiting for the concert to start in that heat.
Felt like a mountain lion climbing to our area where the earlier ones had chosen to sit. It was packed everywhere down lower and a huge crowd had turned up.
Well we did expect a good concert but everyone of us were very disappointed. The sound where we sat
was shocking and the video screens which was all we could really see from up the hill were terrible.
There must have only been 1 camera and he filmed all the acts from the waist up only and only the
centre singer so the 4 tops became top of a top..... very disappointing. We left early so we could get a taxi
back to the motel and then 4 of us took my car into town for some much needed food around midnight.
Sunday was a leisurely brunch at Tarawera before cruising on home at various paces.
Wonderful weekend in great company, just a shame about the concert .
