FOOTNOTE: Unfortunately we had a mixed day. The run was lovely as and the company great as we managed to have time to chat and also have a brief meeting to resolve some points for next year. however the Riverhead Tavern left a lot to be desired with our "buffet" Xmas lunch.
We only received some of the food advertised. Food we eventually received was ok but also served so far apart it was not enjoyable. To have a Xmas dinner with not a single gravy, sauce or mustard given is unthinkable. Roast vegs didn't appear either. I understood a "buffet" was a table elsewhere laden with food you walked up to and served yourself. And to pay $60 a head also?
Not happy Riverhead Tavern sorry. Their response to our written complaint is partially pasted below.
"Thanks for your email….and yes, Sunday was a nightmare!
We are frantically going through all our systems (again) in an effort to streamline the service and decrease the wait times, so that we don’t get the same result.
A number of issues are affecting the restaurant at present.
1. A new chef, working with a new team for him.
2. Managing a new menu, which looks as if it will be great once everyone is practiced in delivering it.
3. Lots of large groups which slows down the process.
4. Working on three different offers. Our new menu, the Christmas Set Menu, and the Christmas buffet which was designed by our previous chef.
Needless to say, these issues combined do put a lot of stress on the Kitchen and the Front of House staff which then affected the quality."
