Weekend trip Pukeora 1st March 2008
"Is it a pre-requiste for driving one of those cars that you have to be blonde?"
That was the question asked of the ladies when we stopped at the Pongaroa general store for refreshments during our drive to San Hill Vineyard at Pukeora. Later, on reflection over lunch at Porangahau, we decided blonde or bald was more accurate.
Four Zs and their drivers and passengers met at Caltex Rimutaka and drove in convoy to Carterton where we turned towards the east and began our drive of the back roads to Waipukurau, hoods down all the way. After Masterton there was very little traffic - in fact we didn't meet another car going our way until Porangahau. It was marvellous having the roads almost to ourselves and being able to drive the Zs as they're meant to be driven. There were many photo opportunities along the way.
At Pukeora we met up with another Z from Wellington and an M Sport from Auckland - yet another blonde but the two males had hair! There were a number of BMW bikes and other sports cars whose drivers and riders had made the trip from all over the North Island, and in no time at all we were comparing notes and enjoying ourselves. Most got into the spirit and dressed in German attire for the evening. Prizes were awarded to Z members for:
Second female theme – Yvonne Wickens (Heidi)
Third male theme and Most Flamboyant – Dave Morris (Bach)
Favourite car – Rosie and Larry Graham (Blue Z3)
