Anniversary Run Raglan 15th- October 2006
Well, we did it! Survived the first year and still have a growing mailing list. For our 1st anniversary a hardy 10 cars hit the roads and repeated the inaugural run to Raglan. The weather wasn’t looking great when departing Auckland nor Hamilton but just as we entered Raglan the sun came out.
Keith, Christine, Bryan, Brenda, Ken, Heather, Sharlene, Kevin, Grant, Ann, Michael, Jan and I all left Auckland with me as the sweeper. I was concentrating so much on keeping everyone ahead of me that I failed to notice another Z car arrive in behind me at first. Gave a huge friendly wave and then considered that he might not be one “of ours” but at least I felt I was friendly. I should have known it would be Ron. He has a habit of sliding into the line down around Huntly but I had missed him this time. In Hamilton Colin, Margret, Trish and friend joined us. A total of 10 cars.
Arrived in Raglan around lunchtime so several of us ate at a restaurant there while others had a wander and got takeaways and then we all met at Whale Bay.
The wind struck us so it was a climb over the side of the hill and we nestled down amongst the grasses out of the wind and watched the scenery of the ever changing sea.
Unfortunately someone sat down in the middle of a prickle patch and had to have help pulling all the prickles out!!! Ouch……..A very delicate operation considering which part had gone down first……. And of course Colin was right there with his camera…
On the return trip to Auckland 5 cars went the back roads and saw the open cast mines at the back of Huntly. Was a good drive.
