Great Day Run to Raglan 9 September 2012
Well the weather was meant to be a challenge for today but we still managed an enjoyable warm and dry run.
At 9.30am Joh and I arrived at the meeting place BP Service Centre Southern Motorway and it was only a couple of minutes before the cars started arriving. Pat and cam, Mark and Susanne, Chris and his son Oliver, Christine and Keith, Jim and Yvonne (always good to be in a position to watch Jim unfold his 6'5" from a Z3), Peter and Lyn (whose Z3 was stolen and when they replaced Lyn's car had a small hiccup in choosing the right replacement but they got there in the end as I saw when they drove up in their beautiful Z4), and Judy and Graham. Time for a catch up and for a text to arrive from Peter to let me know he wouldn't make it. We did consider asking the Mercedes convertible club to move as they did detract from the car park but we are nicer than that.
10am saw us heading out and driving south. Mark led and we travelled some wonderful Z roads with nice curves, twists and turns. These type of roads are perfect for the little cars. Once we pulled into the loop by Te Kauwhata we were joined by brand new members Denise and Keith. I was busy telling Joh to ring them to see if they were coming only to be told by Denise they were 2 cars ahead of me... see how organised the others are :)
The weather held for us and we had some great driving to Raglan. We went to the Marlin Cafe Bar and Grill by the wharf. Nice and friendly and food very good. They managed to not panic when 18 of us descended on them.
Nice relaxing food and hot drink and we headed along the road to take some photos. A nibble of some lovely Xmas cake from Chris and chocolate and marshmallows from me before we all headed out homeward bound. Wasn"t till on the motorway about 20 mins from home we got caught in torrential rain for a couple of minutes and then it was gone again.
9 little cars, 18 lovely people and a great day again.
Pauline.
