Day run Wairarapa 6th April 2008
Mushrooms for Dinner.
We called in to Parkvale Mushrooms in the Wairarapa on our Sunday run in April. Most of us bought a kilo or two, so I guess mushrooms were on the menu for dinner that night. This was the Wellington Group’s fourth trip and as usual we struck rain along the way. Once again we met at Caltex Rimutaka – six Z3s of varying colours and engine sizes, and one very black CLK500 Mercedes. We regrouped in Featherston to be joined by Paula and Nigel in another Z3, and then we were away driving those delightful back country roads of the Wairarapa with plenty of twisties and very little traffic; the sort of roads that Zs excel in. There were many stops along the way to allow the stragglers to catch up and eventually all arrived at the National Wildlife Centre Pukaha Mount Bruce. We enjoyed the convivial atmosphere at lunch and a few toured the Centre viewing many native birds including kiwi, some tuatara, eels and the feeding of the Kaka. Norman wandered outside, where the cars parked together made quite a sight and attracted a great deal of attention. He was told the public choice was the Mercedes with the red Z a close second.
Eventually we made our way back down SH2 in the rain, some of us heading home and others calling in at the small towns along the way before tackling the Rimutakas and the heavy traffic of the Hutt Valley.
