Waitomo Day Run 25th June 2006
After weeks of the worst weather in many years the sun came out just for us. On Sunday 25th June Ken, Heather, Pauline, Diana, Ken, Robyn, Ine, Sandra, Bryan, Brenda, Christine and Keith met at Drury, then headed south along the motorway collecting Ron from beside the road and Colin, Margaret, Judy and Chris in Hamilton.Colin provided each car with some home made delights for sustenance along the way.Leaving Hamilton we drove some lovely roads though to the Morepork Café at Waitomo for lunch. It was so warm sitting on the balcony enjoying a wine along with our pizzas.
Next stop was the Natural Arch. A beautiful short walk to see the arch and a very still, quiet stream passing below. The “children” had fun bouncing on the hanging bridge trying to scare the rest of us from crossing but I took up the challenge bravely…. The next stop was along the road at Marakopa Falls. They were worth the walk to the bottom to view them.
We traveled some amazing roads then for about an hour before Colin and Margaret headed off to their home area. The remainder of the group traversed the roads towards Kinokahu and took the Kawia/Hamilton road back to Pirongia. Afternoon tea was enjoyed at the Persimmon Tree Café before everyone headed off homeward.
