Day trip Waitomo Caves 20th May 2007
I arranged this trip as after 2 visits to Waitomo I still hadn't managed to see through the caves so it was a selfish idea but one I enjoyed. Margret and Colin met us at Otorahanga. Sharlene and Kevin were on the phone to me asking where we were (they had been in Rotorua so came from there) as we both looked up and saw each others car crest the hill heading towards each other in Waitomo. Christine, Keith, Carol, Andrew, Ken, Heather, Diana, and I all drove down together from Auckland.
We parked at the Morepork Café and enjoyed a nice lunch and chat on the balcony.
When we went to buy our tickets we were told if we purchased as a group (1 person buying) we qualified for a discount from $33 to $27. Then I asked if they did “seniors discounts” and he asked how many did we need. As Diana was in the front I pointed to her and said well we need one “normal” for her so he offered us 10 seniors and 1 adult. Cost us $20 each so was well worth it and I guess it also made her responsible for the rest of us being the only “adult” there.
We joined the 2pm cave tour and walked through the caves with our guide and were very interested in all the details about where the caves started and the fact they eventuated from under the sea.We ended the tour with a short boat ride to see all the glow worms. Well worth it.
Colin and Margret headed home while the rest of us went to the Black Water café and ordered coffee while eating some snacks we had with us. A good run home ended a nice day out .
